Programme Budgeting and Marginal Analysis (PBMA) was introduced at the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University in 2011 to address a declining budgetary situation. The implementation of PBMA provided the framework around which a plan to correct the deficit was produced in a timely, efficient and collaborative manner. The plan consisted of specific resource allocation recommendations to address the projected deficit for fiscal year 2011/12 and beyond. All departments as well as the Dean’s office were involved in the process.
